My recent music is a story about a never-ending memory, where the ephemeral existence of each sound is replicated in a dimension of residual, augmented projections. Layer by layer, a new world is built. Here, nothing is temporary. In the world of the captive shadows, everything lasts forever. Diana Gheorghiu

Diana Gheorghiu (b. 1979, Bucharest) writes with equally pleasure contemporary music for orchestra, chamber groups, solo instruments as well as interdisciplinary experimental works for collaborative projects involving musicians, dancers, actors and even new technology developers – as in her ”Dragonfly” for cello, percussion and electronics which featured for the first time in Romania an Augmented Reality application specially created for this piece (ICon Arts Festival, Sibiu State Philharmonic Hall, 2012).

In 2013 she obtained her PH. D. Degree Magna cum laude with the Thesis ”Genuine versus original in Romanian music starting with the second half of the XXth century” at the National University of Music in Bucharest, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Octavian Nemescu. She is a winner of several national composers’ competitions and scholarships in Busteni, Romania (with Aurel Stroe) and Bayreuth, Germany (for a film music masterclass with Dmitri Terzakis) and her works are performed during festivals and concerts in Europe and Middle East or commissioned by prestigious European Institutions (Romanian Cultural Institute, British Council, Ernst von Siemens Foundation).

She is a member of UCMR – the Romanian Composers and Musicologists Union, ARFA – the Romanian Association of Women in Art and SNR-SIMC – the Romanian Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music.

Beside being a composer, Diana Gheorghiu also holds a Master’s Degree in PR and Communication at the National School of Political Science and Public Administration – SNSPA, Bucharest, she completed several project management and project evaluation training programs and masterclasses and has coordinated branding and communication campaigns for various cultural events, such as The ICon Arts Academy and Festival (launched as Contemporary Music Master Class – Breaza, 2003- 2005 and re-branded as ICon Arts Academy and Festival - Sibiu, 2006 - 2009), ICon Arts Meetings (2009, 2010), Rosenau Cross Beats (2013 - 2016), the national social responsibility programme in culture ”Oportunități la Tine Acasă”/”Opportunities in your homeland” (2009 – 2013), Etnoritm Festival (2004 și 2005) etc.

Her name is linked to Exces Music – the arts management agency where she works since 2001 and also to the ICon Arts Academy and Festival which she co-founded in 2003 together with her husband, the cultural manager Sebastian Gheorghiu. Since 2013, she coordinates the ICon Arts ”Composer in residence”programme.
